About the Louisiana Fairgrounds
As America’s second-oldest racetrack, the Fair Grounds Race Course is deeply woven into the fabric of the state’s and nation’s horse racing community. It has survived economic downturns and produced champions in the world’s leading race events.
Most importantly, it is the lifeblood of Louisiana’s horse industry and the agricultural economy it supports.
The Problem
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court overruled a law that allowed historic horse racing machines at OTB’s around the state. The elimination of historic horse racing takes away funding for racetrack operations and investment in purses, infrastructure improvements, and everything that it takes to have a successful racing program in our state. And the racing industry supports an entire agricultural economy - from hay farmers to vets to truck drivers to feed supply stores. We need to do all we can to ensure that Louisiana’s top tier racing and breeding industries are protected.
